Simon Geiregat donnera une présentation. Ensuite, nous aurons l’occasion dans un cadre amical de se retrouver entre habitués et d’apprendre à connaître les autres membres.

 

Simon est maître de conférences en droits intellectuels à l'université de Gand, où il dirige le GIPLI (Ghent IP Law Institute). Il est également professeur associé à temps partiel à l'université de Tilburg. Ses recherches portent principalement sur le droit d'auteur et les droits voisins, et sont complétées par des publications sur le droit des marques et sur la protection des consommateurs et les pratiques du marché.

 

Parody & Pastiche Defence(s)

 

The parody exception is on the move. Analyzing the state of the law and anticipating new CJEU case law, Simon Geiregat puts forward four (sometimes somewhat bold) propositions:

1. The Belgian exception violates EU law (except it doesn’t).
2. Pastiche will turn out not to be what we thought it was (and it will be because of the Germans).
3. Parody is a super-exception online (but only in theory).
4. Parodic use is also getting a foothold in industrial property law.

The presentation will be held in English.
